Recently I was asked to train a group of artist in the art of low poly modeling and texturing for mobile devices. I knew one day the work I did for the Nintendo Game Boy advance, Nintendo DS and Playstation Vita in the past will come handy.. Not really!! Specially now that most video game console/engines support insane amounts of poly's and textures sizes.
However with mobile phones and to a degree tablets you seem to be limited to the things you could do on a regular game console.
The target was 1100 polys with a maximum of 1500 poly's and texture size 512x512. For some one with my background this is really not a challenge, apparently for most new game artist is impossible.

I went to complete the model in around 1200 tri-faces which ends up been around 600 quad faces.
The model hold's really well the target resolution, with the aid of a normal map and textures I got some really nice results, below is the model with no textures.
This are the textures used: Albedo (Diffuse) with include the Ambient oncclucion on the texture, normal, specular and emissive maps all textures at the resolution of 512x512
